Pilates classes in the Sligo area
“Learning Pilates” from the beginning is all about understanding the method of activating or controlling your ”core”. The core is how we refer to those deep abdominal muscles that we rarely use in everyday life.
By introducing very particular but simple movements; breathing techniques and learning to become more balanced we begin to understand the foundations of Pilates. Once you understand this, then you can move on; learning more movements that will start to incorporate what is known as the global areas of the body, through strengthening, lengthening and balancing the body and mind.
For more info there are many different books to learn from but why not come to one of our introductory classes and experience it for yourself.
Why not give it a try and start today!
The structure of a class
Always with a new form of exercise boredom is the major deterrent, but I ask of only one thing be patient and the rest will follow.
For the first three or four classes the structure will mostly be about understanding breathing, concentrating on working the core, demonstration and practicing basic movements.
Don't expect to get everything right away "it doesn’t happen" believe me. But once you grasp the main elements of "Pilates" there's no stopping you and remember most of all to enjoy it.
My personal attraction to Pilates and why I started.
Like a lot of people I began Pilates because of my own personal circumstances. I have for many years been involved in the sports and fitness industry and have over the years picked up injuries which plagued my training.
My major reoccurring injury was a back problem. For many years I struggled with it and from time to time having trouble with it. I actually stumbled across pilates but recognised that I needed to concentrate more on the centre (core) out, instead of what I had been doing which was looking at the outside (global) first.
I can't tell you that Pilates was the miracle cure to my injuries. But I can honestly tell you that it has helped me personally; and allowed me to move forward with my training in a way that I had not considered before finding Pilates.
Good luck to you in your training,
Paul
